Magento requires a linux server for installation

1. Download the compressed(.zip or .tar.gz) file from the Magento website and extract it.
2. Upload files to your web server via FTP software
3. Make sure that the following files and directories have write permission.
• magento/var/.htaccess
• magento/app/etc
• magento/var
• magento/media
4. Create a MySQL Database for it
5. Now visit the homepage to start installation wizard.
